
Aboriginal economic is the issue which has the special importance for Canada. The Government recognizes that economic development is key to improving the standard of living and quality of life for Aboriginal people and all Canadians. Indeed, it is the precursor to all other forms of development — social, cultural, and political — and is necessary to achieving other development objectives.
Currently, the federal government of Canada invests considerable amount of money in Aboriginal economic development programs delivered through eleven departments and agencies. Economic development initiative is committed to increasing participation of Aboriginal communities in regional economic development by:
- Increasing participation of Aboriginal communities in regional economic development initiatives with Regional Economic Development Alliances:
- Increasing the number of Aboriginal owned businesses within Alberta
· Providing Aboriginal communities and businesses with management consulting expertise
Business advisory services are introduced for support the development of Aboriginal businesses:
- Through The Business Link’s Aboriginal Business Services Network
- By providing financial support for Aboriginal tradeshows and entrepreneurial conferences
- Through “Aboriginal Business Owners” training program
- By supporting Aboriginal labour force development
Programs focusing on the realities of doing business with Aboriginal communities, Aboriginal-owned companies and institutions, and individual Aboriginal entrepreneurs are developed.
